1. What is with the chapter titles?
TM: Ahh great question. one of the hidden mysteries within Power Lines was my choice for chapter titles. I willl be honest is saying that the definitions of the not so common words do have some correlation with the events within each given chapter however, there is a deeper meaning. As we know, Konstantine DiMarko is indeed illiterate. I wanted my readers to be able to connect not only with Kevin but with all of the characters. This being said, it can be assumed that you are not illiterate since you are indeed reading a book. I questioned how I could make my readers feel as insecure as Konstantine (or any illiterate person) must feel when she is not able to read (especially at the zoo scene). The average person doesn't know what the words in my chapter titles mean (I didn't know most of them myself) and with each "new chapter" you have a moment of feeling exactly how Konstantine must have felt her entire life whenever she came across written words. You now know what it is like to look at a series of letters and have no clue what they mean. Imagine living your entire life like this. Now you have more insight into the life of Konstantine DiMarko.
2. So there is some symbolism in the typos I found then?
TM: How clever you are! Sure, most novels go through many revisions with each printing however the typos you saw (or didn't see) are indeed another "easter egg" I left in for the reader to relate to someone aside from Kevin. Let's think about this one. As we are relatable to Kevin and Miranda as human beings that know "good and evil", there is one character in the book that knows not the true evils of the world because she has forgiven her tormentors. That's right, Miss Lindsey. You see, while you and I go through the novel and we discover how pure of heart Miss Lindsey truly is, we all want to associate ourselves with her. This however, isn't possible because of her innocent outlook and optimistic views on all of life. We spend our days listening to the news, reading the paper, and browsing the internet, subjecting our souls to all of the evils and corruption of the world. Miss Lindsey on the other hand never has to "see" any of this and she wouldn't have it any other way. I put these in there to dictate the difference between us and Miss Lindsey. No matter how hard we want to avoid them, we have to learn to take the good with the bad and corruption is simply human nature. Miss Lindsey, could tell you the story of Kevin Pryor and she would have a completely undilluted and free of "error" story because she only "sees" the world as perfect in her head.
3. Would you consider yourself like a real life Kevin or have you lived a life similar to his?
TM: When I was developing Kevin, I drew from a few events in my life. With this being said, I did the same for most of my characters. If you want a straight answer, then no, I am not Kevin Pryor. The more complicated answer however, being that as a writer, you grow very close to each character and you hate to see them go in the end. I feel as if I lost some great friends along the way (when Kevin died, as well as Miss Lindsey).
